I invested in this magnificent technology that will help me remember my past very cautiously. For days and countless nights I researched whether this camera would suite my lifestyle. I was happy when I bought it; it was like Christmas again, but in the month of July. I was very hesitant though, I mean not cause of the camera, but because of the cost. Did I really need an expensive camera? Is it really worth it? YES IT IS! :). So I picked my camera up at Circuit City and headed to the counter and this is how it went:
Woman At Counter: Would you like to buy a warranty for the camera? $49.99 for three years including parts and labor. So if you drop it, wash it, or even kick it, its covered.
Me: (Hell ya, this is an awesome deal. Who knows what's gonna happen.) Yes, please add it onto my purchase.
Woman At Counter: (MUAHAHAHA, sucker got sucked into buying a warranty. Wait till something happens and we'll refuse him service.) Have a nice day!
Me: THANK YOU!!
.........Seven Months Later............
Me: "Smile...happy birthday!..."
Went to a club for a friends birthday and realized that while taking pictures with my so awesomely awesome camera, the stupid cap of the shutter button has come off. I was so pissed. I mean, it's only been seven months. But oh well, I bought a warranty so I should be fine. I'll go in Circuit City and they'll fix; it'll be like running a knife in hot butter. The next morning I walked into Circuit City and explain to the Customer Service woman what my problem was. Her response:
Customer Service Woman: I'm sorry, this looks like it was an accidental damage. You're current warranty doesnt cover accidental damage. You need the Advantage Service PLUS.
Me: Ok, so how come I wasnt offered it back when I bought the camera and how can I get it? Everything in this world is accidental damage. What exactly does the standard warranty cover?
CSW: Oh well, you see, by LAW, our state cannot give out the plan. You have to get it from the neighbouring state.
Me: (Sarcastically and after much yelling) Awesome!
I called Circuit City in New Hampshire and the woman on the phone says that I cannot upgrade it because it's been more the 45 days. So I asked what do i do now. She told me to call Canon directly becasue the one year manufacturer warranty is still valid. So I call up Canon and tell them my problem and they said to send my camera on. I shipped my camera in to Canon, which by the way cost me $12. You must get insurance and tracking on the camera. Yesterday I called them back and asked what the deal was. She said:
Canon Customer Service: Sorry, the damage on the camera is not a factory defect. To get it fixed you must pay us $129 for the cap of the button.
Me: HAHAHA You've got to be joking. I've had this camera for seven months. How else do you explain it popping off.
CCS: Sorry, I am not a technician, I dont know how it all works.
Me: Great, send my camera back. Cause I am not paying $129 for the repairs. I can buy a brand new one for that price. You guys are kidding me. Thank you.
Moral of the Story: Always ask for accidental damage coverage. Never buy from Circuit City. Standard warranty covers technical malfunctions and such. Things like this harldy ever happen.
Question to Ponder: Why should I buy something where I have to buy something just to protect my purchase? Warranty should not be called Warranty...they should be called "Just-In-Case". Did I just pay for a "Just-In-Case"?
